Rassau runs for Charity!

„HSH Nordbank Run 2012“

After the successful participation in the Vattenfall Cyclassics last year, the Rassau team was looking for new challenges this year and took on the “HSH Nordbank Run” on 16 June 2012.

The “HSH Nordbank Run” is a company run for Charity and who is not motivated when it comes to exercise for a good cause.

The track is four kilometers long and takes a different route every year through the youngest district of Hamburg – the HafenCity (Harbour City). You run or walk in teams of at least ten participants. Six Euros of every entry fee and another ten Euros per team went to the Hamburg club "Kinder helfen Kindern e.V.” (Kids help kids e.V.) and the campaign "…und los! Kids in die Clubs” (let’s go! Kids to the clubs). This campaign enables children and young people from low-income families a free membership in sports clubs in Hamburg because they often cannot afford the monthly fee.

The Rassau team met before the race at the subway station “Baumwall” near the HafenCity. The starts were from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm throughout the day. Other participants were already running, while the final preparations were made. After the race numbers were attached and the running shoes were laced, the team came together for a final cheering up.

The weather was playing along - slightly windy but no rain. After the starter photo team Rassau went to the starting line. A wide range of participating teams: law firms, nurseries, shipping companies and many more. By speakers our team was introduced and off we went!

The track passed by pedestrian passages and dining restaurant guests. Up and down stairs, around corners, over bridges and along the water through the rapidly growing suburb of Hamburg. Some of the route was not easy to identify, but our team kept a clear view. After four kilometers the finish line was in sight.

We got water and muesli bars, and later alcohol-free beer against the muscle pain. Exhausted but happy our team was satisfied with its performance for a good cause. In the end there was a well-deserved reward: grilled food and cold drinks in front of the live music stage. A total of 792 teams with 20,884 runners participated. A total of EUR 133,500 was donated. It was a great day and certainly not the last race for our Rassau team.
